TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel is optimistic that the national industrial competitiveness will increase as national demand for electricity is being met. Rachmat said that successfully managing the energy sector is the key to economic growth.
According to Gobel, there are two factors that can affect a country's industrial strength: electric power and manpower. "Our products will be able to compete in the global market if the industry has [good electricity and manpower]," Rachmat said.
The minister believed that the target to increase exports of non-oil and gas up to 300 percent from US$149.9 billion in 2013 to US$458.8 billion in 2019 can be achieved.
According to Rachmat, export target can be achieved if certain conditions are fulfilled, such as increased national investment, adequate road infrastructure and logistics facilities, good business climate and financial support from the banking sector.
