TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Logistics Association (ALI) chairman Zaldi Ilham Masita, said that in addition to establishing a single port authority, the government must reform Pelindo II board of directors.
According to Zaldi, the port operator company is responsible for the lengthy dwelling time due to slow container loading and unloading process.
"I think the presidential taskforce would only serve as a temporary solution, and it won't address the issues with dwelling time in the long run," Zaldi said on Sunday, June 28, 2015.
Indonesian supply chain expert M. Iskandar said that a single coordinating agency at Indonesian ports must be formed and provided with the authority to assess existing or issuing new regulations. In addition, the agency must have the capacity to reject new regulations that might hinder business process at ports. Iskandar argued that the particular agency must have power over those who are involved in every business process occurring at ports.
"The plan to establish a single coordinator at ports is interesting to be discussed. The proposal about port administrator to be appointed as the coordinator must be well-considered," Iskandar said.
