TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo has dismissed public speculations that the alleged corruption involving 16 electric cars in the 2013 State Budget implicating former State Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan has been politicized.
“If there are certain parties that say there are politicization and criminalization, they're not true. This case has been handled since a long time ago,” said Prasetyo on Wednesday.
Prasetyo continued that the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has gathered evidence related to the case, including witnesses, data and facts. He added the AGO summoned Dahlan today to verify the evidence and cross-check it with Dahlan`s testimony.
“It is his right to defend himself. However, evidence and facts will speak for themselves,” said Prasetyo.
Yusril Ihza Mahendera, Dahlan’s legal counselor, said it was possible that Dahlan was dragged into the case due to politizaion, although he admitted there had been no strong proof of it thus far.
“Even if there is a political element, investigators will certainly find it difficult to find evidence and make legal arguments. They will eventually be cornered,” said Yusril.
In the meantime, Yusril said, he would focus on handling Dahlan’s case from the legal side. “I hope there is no other motive,” said Yusril.
