TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - City-owned developer PT Pembangunan Jakarta Raya will launch a transit-oriented development (TOD) project in Senen, Central Jakarta.
PT Pembangunan Jaya managing director Frans Sunitro said the project comprised Senen Market revitalization, green areas and mass transport integration.
“We have a master plan for TOD in Senen. Besides being tasked by the Jakarta provincial government, most of the lands here are ours,” said Frans on Friday.
According to Frans, the TOD scheme is one of the city development approaches that adopted combined spatial planning and the maximization of the use of mass transport.
Senen has been chosen thanks to its location in the heart of the city, in addition to its renowned Senen Market and other shopping centers that allowed the place to be transformed into an economic hub.
Frans continued that the TOD master plan consisted of the integration design of several public transports. Trains and Transjakarta buses are among the public transports traveling through the Senen area.
PT Pembangunan Jaya will later add more public transports to the area, including a light rail transit (LRT). “LRT Cempaka Putih route will travel through Senen,” said Frans, adding that the second phase of the MRT construction is planned to traverse through this area.
Frans said the Jakarta provincial government and PT Pembangunan Jaya had agreed to connect public transports with a six-segment city toll road project because the toll road could accommodate private transports and shuttle buses to carry passengers. “If this master plan succeeds, Senen will become the first mass transportation hub in Jakarta,” said Frans.
