TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PSSI has officially disbanded Indonesia’s national team U-16 and U-19 starting from Friday, June 12. The teams’ coach Fakhri Husaini announced the decision in a press conference at PSSI office in Jakarta, Friday June 12.

“Today, we were invited by PSSI to receive information regarding the status ot U-16 and U-19 national team. Starting from today, the national team U-16 and U-19 have officially been disbanded because there is no competition they can participate,” said Fakhri during the press conference.

The U-16 and U-19 teams were scheduled to participate in the AFF Cup that should have been hosted by Indonesia from July to September. However, referring to sanction imposed by FIFA earlier, the Asian Football Confederation ruled out Indonesia from the competition.

“Since the first time I was tasked to coach U-19 and U-19, I have never thought my task would end this way,” said Fakhri who is also a former national team.

“We will attempt an approach. Hopefully they continue to love football because one day they’ll become great players.”

PSSI Secretary General Azwan Karim had previously stated that Indonesia’s role as the host for the 2015 AFF Cup U-16, U-19, dan AFF Futsal 2015 had been annuled by the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), also following the FIFA sanction.
