TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Commissioner of the National Police Commission Adrianus Meliala responded positive on the naming of Inspector General Tito Karnavian as Metro Jaya Police Chief. Tito’s background as Special Detachment-88 Anti Terror Police Chief could make the capital city safer.
“He could minimize radical movement that intend to enter Jakarta,” Adrianus told Tempo on Sunday, June 7. Adrianus says Tito could improve his skills in maintaining Jakarta from radical movement attacks such as terrorism.
A telegram letter number ST/1242/VI/2015 and ST/1243/VI/2015 containing rotation announcement for hundreds of mid-rank and high ranking police officers. One of the points mentioned the appointing of Tito in replacing Inspector General Unggung Cahyono, who is promoted to Planning and Budgeting Assistant of the National Police Chief.
Public Relations Chief of Metro Jaya Police Department Sr.Comm. Muhammad Iqbal confirmed the telegram but is uncertain when Tito will be inaugurated. “The inauguration will be handled by the National Police Chief,” said Iqbal.
According to Adrianus, two of Tito’s predecessor each has their advantages. Inspector General Dwi Prayitno, Unggung’s predecessor, has the advantage in fostering security and public order that prioritizes in preventive measures. While Unggung showed firmness when facing with anarchist community organization.
Adrianus expect that Tito will be able to continue the steps of his predecessors and says that the only way is to mix strategies and combined the sistem which have been applied by Dwi Prayitno and Unggung. “Don’t terminate it,” he said.
