TEMPO.CO, Marina Bay - Indonesian paddler Marzuki secured Indonesia’s first gold in SEA Games in Singapore. Marjuki sets fastest record in 1,000-meters single canoeing with 4.02.349 on Saturday.
Myanmar’s Thant Zin followed in the second place with 4.06.707. The third place was secured by Phillippines paddler Hermie Macaranas with 4.08.294.
Marzuki’s gold medal has lifted Indonesia’s position one rank higher than the last position.
“This is all because of the supports and prayers from friends in Indonesia,” said Marzuki, a decent of Bajo indigenous tribe, in the flag-rising ceremony nearby lake Marina on Saturday.
Canoeing team manager, Hari Sidharta said he was surprised with Marzuki achievement since it was the 23-year-old athlete’s first international event. The manager said he was targeting a silver for Marzuki.
