TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – National Police spokesperson Brig. Gen Agus Rianto clarified that his institution had no intent on hindering the pretrial motion filed by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan. According to Agus, the National Police did not attend the trial due to other agendas.
“We have never intended to hamper [the pretrial hearing] or to buy us some time,” Agus said on Monday, May 25, 2015, at the National Police headquarters.
Earlier, Novel’s lawyer Muji Kartika Rahayu alleged that the National Police were buying some time so that Novel’s case dossier would be handed over to the Prosecutor’s Office. Agus dismissed the allegations, claiming that the National Police were studying the pretrial lawsuit.
Novel’s pretrial hearing was held at the South Jakarta District Court on Monday, May 25, 2015. Judge Suhairi, the sole judge presiding over the trial, adjourned the hearing in light of the defendant's absence. However, Muji requested to reschedule the hearing as soon as possible. Suhari agreed to postpone the hearing until Friday, May 29, 2015.
