TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The China Banking Association (CBA) is mulling the formation of an Asian financial cooperation association.
"When ready, the non-governmental organization will encourage the growth of safe, healthy Asian finance," CBA vice chairman Yang Zaiping said on Monday, May 18.
According to Zaiping, the global economy has grown in an imbalanced way; as can be seen in trade, finance, lawmaking and global governance. The growth of Asian economy will help relieve the imbalance, he said.
The organization is expected to help Asia have a bigger role in the international financial system, Zaiping also said.
Zaiping made the remarks while attending the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) in Fuzhou, capital of the Fujian Province. The ACD, inaugurated in June 2002 in Cha-Am, Thailand, is a continental forum that aims at building an Asian community without duplicating other organizations or creating blocs against others.
