TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - City-run market operator PD Pasar Jaya president director Djangga Lubis said the company needed Rp300 billion to polish Pasar Senen with modern looks, while building 10 public markets only needs Rp170 billion.
Diangga said the large gap was not attributable to their designs. "Just because public markets are traditional doesn't mean they shouldn't be built in a modern way," said Diangga.
Pasar Senen market has been known to have caught fire, with its block three catching light in September last year and April when the fire incinerated some one thousand kiosks. It took the authorities two days to put out the fire.
PD Pasar Jaya plans to construct 10 public markets using Rp170 billion in state capital injection. The markets are Pasar Sinar, Pasar Petojo, Pasar Enclek, Pasar Cawang Kavling, Pasar Walang, Pasar Pelita, Pasar Karet Belakang, Pasar Gang Kancil, Pasar Waru and Pasar Bidadari.
