TEMPO.CO, London - During an official visit to London, Indonesian Vice President Jusuf "JK" Kalla met with CEOs of leading companies in England, including Jardine Matheson, Standard Chartered, and Olam International at the Asia House on Thursday, May 14, 2015.
Accompanying JK were Indonesian Ambassador to United Kingdom Hamzah Thayeb, South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Y. Limpo, South East Sulawesi Governor H. Nur Alam, West Sulawesi Governor Anwar Adnan Saleh, and West Sumatera Governor Muslim Kasim.
After attending a closed meeting with the CEOs, JK attended a luncheon hosted by Asia House where UK Trade and Investment Minister Francis Maude welcomed Indonesian delegations. Maude said that the UK government would help Indonesia by sharing experiences in economic reform.
JK also elaborated Indonesia's recent economic development in front of 50 executives of major companies. The Vice President revealed that the UK is among top five major investors in Indonesia.
"We hoped that UK will increase its investment in energy, agriculture, manufacture and trading," JK said while admitting that Indonesia's economic growth has missed its target due to China's economic slowdown.
However, JK expressed optimism with Indonesia's potential as the middle class population in Indonesia will grow in the future.
