TEMPO.CO, Tangerang – Tangerang Sanitary and City Park Agency is planning to construct a mini zoo at Rawa Kucing landfill in Kedaung Wetan sub-district in Tangerang in a bid to re-brand the foul-smelling, filthy landfill as an environmentally-friendly zone.
“We are preparing cages for birds, turkeys and other animals,” Agency chief Ivan Yudianto told Tempo in Rawa Kucing on Wednesday, May 13, 2015.
Ican said the mini zoo, which would come equipped with a swimming pool and Wi-Fi connectivity, would become a tourist attraction, including for students.
Agency secretary Sugiharto Achmad Bagja said the landfill presently had a green garden measuring 1,000 square meters.
“We are conducting trials to get rid of the smell around the landfill by spreading coffee powder and several other methods,” he said.
Sugiharto added that the one thousand tons of garbage transported to the landfill daily would be processed to produce renewable energy, and that a small-scale renewable energy experiment was currently afoot.
Masan, the landfill’s acting head, said the landfill would be transformed into a green zone. “We are preparing a green belt that will circle the landfill,” he said.
