Indonesia Claims Second Place in President Cup With Two Golds

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia collected two golds, one silver and one bronze to win runner up position in the international boxing competition President Cup XXII which was held in Palembang, Indonesia on April 20 to 25. Top place in the tournament is secured by India with 4 golds and 3 bronzes.
Gold medals were attributed to Mario Kali (men’s 49 kg) who beat Malaysian Muhammad Fuad Rizwan, and Julia Bria (men’s 52 kg) who beat Vietnam’s Bui Trong Tai. Silver and bronze were collected by Vinky Montolalu (men’s 64 kg) and Farand Papendang (men’s 60 kg), respectively.
South Sumatra Governor, Alex Noerdin congratulated the athletes in his speech for the closing ceremony. He also announced that the province will be host to 2018 Asian Games.
Chairman of Indonesian Amateur Boxing Federation, Reza Ali said the two golds have ended Indonesia’s gold drought that run for the last 20 years. He believes it would become boost spirit of Indonesian boxing for future competition.
