TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said the provision of shops that exclusively sold alcoholic beverages could become a viable solution to the central government’s recent ban on the sales of such drinks at minimarkets.
“It will be better if we make stores that only sell beers. So people going there are those who really want to drink beers, so those places are not for everybody,” Ahok said at the City Hall on Jl. Merdeka Selatan on Thursday, April 16, 2015.
Separately, Jakarta Governor Djarot Syaiful Hidayat said the alcohol ban the Trade Ministry introduced recently only barred the sales of alcoholic drinks at minimarkets, as opposed to prohibiting people from drinking such drinks. Thus, he questioned those who were protesting the Jakarta administration’s share in brewery PT Delta Jakarta.
“The sales are not banned, but rather regulated. What does this have to do with our share in Delta?” Djarot said.
“The share in Delta has been there since the 70s, why is it a problem now?” the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) added.
