TEMPO.CO, Madrid - Goalkeeper Jan Oblak made a series of outstanding saves to help Atletico Madrid hold defending champion Real Madrid to a 0-0 tie Tuesday night in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal.
In a rematch of last year's final, Oblak stopped Dani Carvajal's shot in the second minute, Oblak blocked Gareth Bale's effort in the fourth after defender Diego Godin failed to make a clearance and saved Cristiano Ronaldo's free kick. Oblak made a spectacular diving save to stop Bale's shot in the 31st.
Real Madrid will host the second leg of the total-goals series on April 22.
"The first half was very different to the second half," Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas said. "In the first half we were the better side, but we were denied by some fantastic saves by Oblak. The tie is still open, very open."
