TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Despite protest from thousands of hotel workers, Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Yuddy Chrisnandi continued with the policy to ban public officials from having meetings in hotels.

"Hotels are built to boost tourism not for where funds of the State Budget and Regional Budget flow," he said in Mataram, Friday, March 20, 2015.

Speaking in Mataram, Yuddy also said that the policy was not meant to hurt tourism in West Nusa Tenggara province and to minimize the negative impacts, he said that he would find the solution.

Yuddi also asked West Nusa Tenggara provincial government not to continue giving permits to build new hotels that can make the number of hotels in the province swell and room occupancy in the hotels drop.

The growth of hotels, he said, must be controlled, he said and the orientation of the management of the hotels must also be improved.

In the meantime, General Manager of Santika Hotel in Mataram Reza Bovier said that he was not opposed to the policy.

"I agree with the austerity policy but I hope it won’t be implemented suddenly because the plan of the budget has been set since October 2014," he said.

Reza also said that Santika Hotel did not have too many problems with the drop in occupancy rate but he admitted that other hotels in Mataram are facing difficulties.
