TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the Indonesian Tempe and Tofu Cooperative Ketua (Primkopti) of Gunungkidul Regency Branch Tri Harjono requested the government to give price subsidy to soybean farmers.
The request came following the weakening Rupiah against US Dollar, which dropped to Rp13,000 per US dollar.
With the subsidy, he said that the price of local soybean will not drop even further.
“So farmers will not suffer from financial loses and will not be afraid to plan soybean again,” said Harjono.
According to Sarjono, if the price of local soybean dropped to Rp7,500 per kilogram, the government can give a subsidy of Rp1,500 per kilogram.
“So the price sold to the buyers can remain Rp7,500,” he said.
If this policy is implemented, he added, farmers will be enthusiastic to plant soybean again.
