TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cristiano Ronaldo starred the night in Gelsenkirchen as he scored a goal and an assist against Schalke in the top-16 tier of Champions League.
The goal also ends Ronaldo’s goalless period, after spending nearly five hours without scoring a single goal. It was also his 58th goal in 58 Champions League appearances.
Ronaldo booked an opener for Madrid in the first half. Unguarded, the Portuguese skipper scored with a header in the 26th. Schalke responded with waves of attacks, led by Ghana striker Kevin Prince-Boateng. Nevertheless, Boateng’s effort was still far from equalizing the scoreline.
Ten minutes before the match ended, Ronaldo stole the spotlight when he dribbled the ball approaching Schalke territory. Ronaldo then delivered a decent pass to Marcelo, who superbly scored to double the lead.
The winning put Madrid on a better stance at betting house, given that they need to draw Schalke at Santiago Bernabeu on March 10. Schalke, on the other hand, need to net more than two goals to advance to the quarterfinals.
