TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) at East Java's Bhayangkara Hospital has identified the remains of the co-pilot of the stricken AirAsia flight QZ8501 aircraft, which crashed into the Karimata Strait on December 28, 2014.
The Head of East Java Police's DVI Unit, Sr. Comr. Budiyono said in Surabaya on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, that the remains of Remi Plesel have been identified, along with the remains of a female victim who goes by the name Megawati.
"We have managed to identify two remains today - 'B097' who has been identified as co-pilot Remi Plesel, and 'B098', which is a female named Megawati," said Budiyono.
Budiyono said that the remains of the 46-year of French citizen was identified by the clothing on the deceased, dental record, age and gender comparisons.
Meanwhile, 42-years old Megawati was identified through her dental records, as well as the shorts that she wore when she boarded the flight - which matches the security footages acquired from Juanda Airport's CCTV cameras.
AirAsia Indonesia's Health and Security Officer, Dono B Sukoco, said that AirAsia is coordinating with the deceased co-pilot's family to plan the repatriation of his remains to France.
"His remains is currently stored in Bhayangkara Hospital's morgue. His repatriation process is still being confirmed and coordinated by his family in France," said Budiyono.
