TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Relatives of 8 victims of the AirAsia QZ8501 crash are waiting for the Surabaya High Court's decision regarding the insurance claims disbursement, especially in the appointment of heirs. Suharto Wardoyo, head of the Surabaya Department of Population and Civil Registration, said that the wait is necessary since death certificates—one of the documents needed to disburse the claims—can only be given to the rightful heirs.
Seventy eight Surabaya citizens became victims of the plane crash. So far, the Surabaya City administration has issued 29 death certificates, but only four have been given to their family members.
PT Asuransi Jasa Indonesia, one of AirAsia Indonesia's insurance partners, is also waiting for documents completion from passengers' relatives. From the 155 passengers and crewmembers who died in the crash, only two have had their entire documents submitted by family members. To date, one victim's heir had received a claim worth of Rp1.25 billion.
