KNKT Releases Preliminary Findings on AirAsia Accident

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Commission for the Transportation Safety (KNKT) has released preliminary findings of AirAsia's black box investigation. The investigation has revealed 18 important points subject to further investigation.

Among the findings was the fact that co-pilot Remi Emmanuel Plesel was in control of the plane before it crashed, according to the explanation of Chief Investigator Mardjono Siswosuwarno.

Mardjono claimed that all of the plane's cabin crews have valid licenses and medical certificate. Meanwhile, the plane itself was in good condition and there was no indication of overweight issues.

Head of KNKT Tatang Kurniadi later said that investigators have opened the black box and retrieved whaterver data contained in it. KNKT estimated that it would take up to 12 months to determine the actual cause of the accident.
