TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – State-owned electricity company PT PLN has proposed to delay the tariff hike for households in the categories of 1,300 and 2,200 watt.
“The increase is delayed for three months and then the rate will increase gradually until it reaches tariff adjustment beginning September 2015,” said PLN commerce division head Benny Marbun on Wednesday.
Benny said customers of both categories would be charged with Rp1,352 kilowatthour (KWh), while households with power capacity from 3,500 watt to 6,000 watt had been charged with an adjusted tariff of RP1,496.05 per KWh.
Regarding the postponement, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has proposed additional electricity subsidy by Rp1.3 trillion to the proposed subsidy of Rp6.62 trillion in the revised 2015 state budget plan (RAPBN-P).
In the 2015 state budget (APBN), the total budget for electricity subsidy was pegged at Rp68.69 trillion. However, the subsidy was proposed to be reduced following declining global oil prices. In the 2015 RAPBN-P scheme, electricity subsidy was set at Rp28.3 trillion for households in the 450-watt category and Rp28.1 trillion for households in the 900-watt category.
