ICW Demands Budi Gunawan's Financial Transaction to be Revealed

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Law and Justice Monitoring Division of the Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) Emerson Yuntho requested a report on the result of financial transactions of Indonesian Chief of Police candidate Budi Gunawan to be disclosed transparently.
Emerson said the financial transaction analysis of Megawati’s former aide came from the Center of Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis (PPATK) in 2010. “If its reasonable, show it. Its been covered-up all this time,” Emerson told a media conference in the office of PPATK on Sunday, Jan 12.
Based on the investigation results of Tempo magazine July 4 2010, there were six senior and middle-ranked police officers that conducted financial transactions that do not fit the profile or have exceeded their monthly salary. The biggest transactions were discovered in Budi Gunawan’s bank account, who was Chief of Profession and Security Division at the time.
The amount of Budi Gunwan’s wealth reported in the State Official Wealth Report (LHKPN) in 2008 is recorded at Rp 4.468 billion, whereas in July 2013 his wealth went up five times to becoming Rp22.6 billion.
In 2010, Budi clarified his wealth in front of the parliament’s law commission and the Chief of Police. However, the ICW doubted the results of the Criminal Police’s investigation because of the strong internal purposes of the Indonesian Police. “Do not just clarify, reveal it all in order to be fair and clear,” Emerson said.
Emerson regrets President Jokowi’s behavior in submitting the name Budi Gunawan to the parliament without the recommendation of PPATK and the Eradication Corruption Commission. Budi’s submission as Chief of Police candidate appears to be in a hurry. “Jokowi vowed to involve the Eradication Corruption Commission and PPTAK during the selection process of Attorney General and Chief of Police, but appeared to be unproven,” Emerson said.
