TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government is currently planning to determine a maximum price for Premium type fuel at Rp 9,500 per liter to anticipate fuel price hike.
According to Naryanto Wagimin, acting director general of oil and gas at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, the government will take into account the purchasing power of the people in determining fuel prices. If the prices of fuel soars when the world's oil price goes up, people's buying power will drop.
"That is why the government decided [to set] a maximum price of Premium fuel at Rp 9,500 per liter," Naryanto said on Monday, January 12, 2015.
He added that the government will continue to observe the decrease of the world's fuel price because it can cause the prices of premium and solar to be lowered even further on February 1, 2015.
Currently, the price of Premium fuel has been set decreased from Rp 8,500 to Rp 7,600 per liter while Solar (subsidized diesel fuel) has been decreased from Rp 7,500 to Rp 7,250 per liter.
