  • TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney becomes the first player who won England Player of the Year for three times as he was chosen as the winner for 2014. The 29-year-old has won the same title in 2008 and 2009.

The Three Lions and Manchester United captain has gathered 27 percent of the votes taken by supporters, more than Danny Wellbeck and Raheem Sterling.

Over the course of his 2014 career, Rooney has played 13 matches for The Three Lions where he became the top scorer with eight goals. He had collected only five yellow cards and one red card. The title becomes Rooney’s third after he won the same in 2008 and 2009.

In Women’s Best Player category, Manchester City striker Toni Dugaan was chosen as the winner. The 23-year-old bagged 14 goals in 24 matches with England national team. West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino voted as the winner for U-21 category.
