TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government is expediting the repatriation of 1,428 illegal Indonesian migrant workers (TKI) who were still being detained in 16 locations in neighboring Malaysia.
“After undergoing data and legal processing, the workers will be immediately repatriated gradually,” Manpower Minister Muhammad Hanif Dakhiri said on Monday, December 22, 2014.
Hanif said the migrant workers were arrested for multiple violations, including incomplete documentation, visa overstay, violations against documentation regulations and documentation forgery.
According to the ministry’s data, the detained workers comprised 963 males, 397 females, and 68 underage workers.
Earlier, the minister visited Malaysia for three days to help speed-up repatriation process. Hanif also repatriated Friday a total of 383 illegal Indonesian workers detained in Johor Baru.
