TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Provincial Government of Banten has dishonorably discharged seven civil servants out of the total of 35 civil servants who had been sanctioned for various misdemeanour charges throughout 2014.
"The violations involving these civil servants include drug use, failing to report to work for more than two months, and involvement in corruption cases," said the acting Secretary for Banten's Administration, Widodo Hadi, on Monday, December 7, 2014.
The dishonorable discharges and the disciplinary sanctions handed to the remaining 28 civil servants were agreed during a meeting of Banten's Disciplinary Board a while back, said Widodo. "The result of the meeting was then given to the acting Governor to be reviewed and authorized," he said.
The Head of Banten's Employee Affairs Agency, Kurdi Matin, explained that the seven discharged officials will not receive any severance and automatically forfeits their pension rights due to the circumstances. "This is especially true for those who were involved in corruption cases," he said.
Kurdi added that the names of the dishonorably discharged officials need to be made public in order to create a deterrent effect among the ranks of Banten's civil servants. "There is no need to cover it up - this is the era of transparency," finished Kurdi.
