TEMPO.CO, Banyuwangi - Marwan Jafarm, Village, Undeveloped Regions and Transmigration said that he will transmigrate 6,000 families originated from Java Island to several regions starting next year. "If there is an additional budget in 2015, we will add more transmigrants," said Marwan in Banyuwangi on Sunday, December 7, 2014.
According to Marwan, transmigration destination regions include Sumatera, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Papua. However, the government will prioritizes regions that are still able to accommodate transmigrants.
Currently, there are 21 provinces officially partnered in the transmigration program. In addition to inter-island transmigration, the government also encourages people to transmigrate locally between districts or sub-districts within one province. The local transmigration program is considered to be more effective in ensuring a balanced distribution of the population in an effort to develop remote areas.
Marwan said that the transmigration program is not only about moving population. The most important thing in the program is structuring social aspects to ensure the acculturation of indigenous people and transmigrants. "Cultural approach is more important," he said.
