TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) spokesperson Makmur Syaheran said the company would operate 20 additional trains for the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations. “We have prepared them,” said Makmur on Sunday.
The additional trains will be in operation for 17 days from December 20, 2014 to January 5, 2015. “Twenty additional trains, special for Christmas and New Year,” said Makmur.
Based on KAI’s press release in November 2014, Christmas and New Year holidays will climax on November 28 and the number of passengers is estimated to reach 3,859,788—increasing from 3,815,740 last year.
Makmur said train tickets for Christmas and New Year were available 90 days before departure, starting on Wednesday, November 26. He added ticke prices would be set based on a scheme of upper and lower limit rates for all non-subsidized classes, while the subsidized economy-class would use the fixed rates for Christmas and New Year.
Previously, Sugiharjo, the acting director general for land transportation at the Transportation Ministry, said the number of passengers of public transportation for Christmas and New Year would hit 14 million people, rising by 4.8 percent from last year’s 13.2 million.
