TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdurrahman Mohammad Fachir, said that he is looking forward to increase Indonesia's trade volume with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by prioritizing economic diplomacy. "The government facilitates stakeholders to be more active, especially in economic [affairs]," Fachir said during the 43rd anniversary of UAE's independence day at Kempinski Hotel on Wednesday, December 3, 2014.
Fachir took the moment of UAE's independence day to congratulate as well as establish cooperation. "We have to create a momentum to see our achievement and what the future will be like," he said, adding that the UAE has an important position because it is one of Indonesian's non-traditional markets in addition to Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Kuwait.
In order to attract investment, Fachir claimed that he is trying to establish a one room-service with the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM). "The BKPM is looking for a formula to synergize regulations in the central [government] and regional [government]," he said.
Fachir is optimistic that Indonesia has the opportunity increase trade with the UAE, such as in the food sector because many of Indonesian food products have been labeled 'halal' by the government. Indonesia also has other leading commodities for the UAE market such as automotive and crude palm oil.
