TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The City Administration of Tangerang have set the 2015 Minimum Wage to Rp2.73 million.  The number was suggested by Tangerang Mayor Arief R. Wismansyah after a meeting with Tangerang City Wage Board which ended up in a deadlock.  “Because the meeting ended up in a deadlock, the Wage Board handed it over to the Mayor and the Mayor suggested the wage,” Tangerang City Man Power Department, Abduh Surachman, told Tempo on Friday, November 21.

According to Abduh, the Union and Tangerang City’s Indonesian Business Association accepted the number’s wage.  Next, the number of the new minimum wage will be handed to the Governor of Banten to be passed.  “The Determination Letter might be out this afternoon,” Abduh said.

A feud occured during the Tangerang City Wage Board meeting because both Union and entrepreneur side would not yield, Abduh explained.  They stand with their own suggestions.  The Union suggested the wage to become Rp3.2 million while entrepreneurs suggested it to become Rp2.23 million.  Meanwhile, the 2014 Minimum Wage is set as Rp2.44 million.

Tangerang City’s Union Coordinator Sunarno refused the Minimum Wage set by the Mayor.  According to Sunarno, the Union still demand a minimum wage of Rp3.2 million.  “That is the laborers’ real needs,” he said.

The increased fuel prices, Sunarno said, triggered laborers to fight so the 2015 Minimum Wage could be set as Rp3.2 million.  “Bekasi makes Rp2,954,000, Karawang makes Rp2,957,000.  Why can’t the City of Tangerang do it?” he uttered.
