TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Rifka Annissa Women’s Crisis Center has launched a compilation album of 20 tracks on Saturday. The album, entitled ‘Bertanya Apa Itu Cinta’, encase a list of songs that depict the campaign against violence toward women.
“Music is acceptable by all. That is our reason in using it as anti-violence campaign,” said Counseling Division Manager Rina Eko Widarsih.
Almost all of the tracks depict stories of violence towards women, such as that embedded in the song Mae by musician Ramses Surobuldog. Mae retells a story about migrant workers, victim of human trafficking.
The performers, presenting the songs that night, came from a very diverse background - casting along activists, students, and actor. Under the stage spotlight, all merged into a great unity of harmony, art encasing messages.
One of the performers, Ahmad Jalidu, musician and member of Young Song Writer Forum of Yogyakarta, said that the album is not for commercial purpose. He expects that the songs can help inspire women to fight any kinds of violence for the sake of justice. “People can access the songs from YouTube,” he said.
