TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - German Chairman of Bakery Entrepreneur Association, Peter Becker, said that Indonesia should participate in many international bakery exhibitions if the country wants to increase its domestic bakery industry. According to Becker, international exhibitions are a golden opportunities for entrepreneurs to learn as much as they can about the business.
"Entrepreneurs can find new business partners, new suppliers or just 'steal' renown bakery recipes in those international exhibitions," Becker told Tempo in Shangrila Hotel Jakarta on Thursday, October 23, 2014. He mentioned that after conducting a presentation on the International Bakery Festival, which will be held in Munich on September 2015.
According to Becker, Indonesia has a good potential to improve bakery industry globally. Therefore, he urged Indonesian bakery entrepreneurs to be diligent in bringing their products to the international market. "Indonesia has an amazing resources of food taste. Its local pastries also varies," Becker said.
Becker also added that international exhibitions can be a chance to 'kidnap' good bakers. For example, his company had brought a tortilla maker whom he met at international bakery exhibition in Mexico. He brought the tortilla maker to Germany to teach his bakers in making tortilla. As a result, his bakers now have another expertise in making a genuine tortilla.
In addition, through the international exhibition, bakery entrepreneurs will be able to share their experiences on the procurement of bakery materials. He gave an example of Indonesia’s condition that rely on Australia in importing wheat. In this case, many entrepreneurs from other countries can explain their business experience. "Indonesian entrepreneurs can get knowledge on how to mix and cultivate their own wheat, from their experience," Becker said.
