TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The swearing in ceremony of Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla as Indonesia's president and vice president for the 2014-2019 term raised the number of guests in several hotels in Jakarta.
Jon A. Masli, international relations director of the Indonesian Hotels and Restaurants Association, yesterday said that a great number of guests booked rooms in hotels located near the Hotel Indonesia roundabout.
These guests, according to Jon, made their reservations days before the inauguration, with booking numbers increasing since three day before the ceremony. "After the inauguration, a lot of them checked-out immediately to return to their respective hometowns," he said.
The inauguration also raised the occupancy rates of several public transportation modes going from Central Java to Jakarta, as people were excited to join the after-party held at the National Monument. Some supporters of Jokowi were even reported to have trouble getting tickets from Solo to Jakarta, as plane and train tickets sold out days before the inauguration.
