TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Telkom Seluler (Telkomsel) marketing director Mas'ud Khamid, said that Telkomsel will run 4G long-term evolution (LTE) network in Jakarta and Bali in December this year. After that, in the first quarter of 2015, Telkomsel will build 4G network in eight other cities.
"We will aggressively establish 4G network in 2015," said Mas'ud Khamid on Wednesday, October 8, 2014.
4G LTE network provides 75 to 100 Mbps with download speed of 3 to 12 Mbps. Mobile internet access through this network can be three times faster compared to 3G network.
Mas'ud said that Telkomsel targets to develop 4G network in 200 cities. However, in developing 4G network, Telkomsel will keep evaluating market development. "We will adjust it with market's response," he said.
The development of this 4G network is considered not difficult by Telkomsel because the company only has to install module on existing base transceiver stations (BTS). However, Mas'ud has not been able to provide details about the budget for the network.
