TEMPO.CO, Washington - Thirty states in the United States, excluding the District of Columbia, have legalized same-sex marriage amid the number of appeals opposing the notion. Gay marriage in the US has gained more supports since the Supreme Court delivered two decisive rulings in 2013.
BBC Reported that the US Supreme Court has recently rejected appeals against gay marriage in five states, namely Indiana, Utah, Oklahoma, Virginia and Wisconsin. By declining to hear the appeals, the court "left intact lower court rulings that had struck down those state bans [on gay marriage]".
The news came like morning sunshine to gay marriage campaigners. "Today is a joyous day for thousands of couples across America who will immediately feel the impact of today's Supreme Court action," said Chad Griffin, president of the Human Rights Campaign.
