TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – PT Jasa Marga president director Adityawarman is upbeat that the new T-Pass electronic sensor system designed by PT Telkom Indonesia would reduce vehicle queues at toll gates by 20 percent.
According to Adityawarman, the previous system could open toll gates after five seconds.
“With the new system, toll gates can open within one second, which is five times faster,” Adityawarman said on Friday, October 3, 2014, after conducting trials for the system at the Kalimalang toll gate.
Adityawarman has set a target that the T-Pass system will be installed at ten Jabodetabek toll gates before 2015. However, toll gates in Cililitan and Pondok Ranji will not adopt the new system due to the severe congestion there.
Adityawarman explained that the cost needed to install the system on a toll gate ranged between Rp500 million and Rp700 million (US$41,667 and US$58,333). Adityawarman is planning to integrate the T-Pass system with Jakarta’s Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system. Vehicle owners only need to buy the sensor or the on-board unit for Rp200,000 (US$16.7).
