TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of Jakarta Maritime and Agriculture Agency, Darjamuni, said the price of live cattle rises every year. He estimated that on this year’s Idul Adha, the price of live cattle increases by 25 to 35 percent from the price in 2013.
However, the government cannot intervene for the increase of the price of cattle. "The price is determined by market mechanism," Darjamuni said yesterday. The price of goat this year reaches Rp75,000 per kilogram, and live cow price is estimated to reach up to Rp3,000,000.
In the meantime, Jakarta Maritime and Agriculture Agency will deploy 656 joint officials to check on the health of live cattle for this year’s Idul Adha.
The checking is needed so that the live cattle distributed are healthy and proper for consumption. The checking began on September 22.
Officials involved consist of veterinarians and students of the Medical Faculty of Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB).
