Govt Drafting State Assets Ledger

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government is preparing a ledger that lists all of Indonesia's assets. In addition listing the actual potential of state assets, the ledger will further increase the country's debt guarantees.
"Later, the book will not only list the state's properties, but also its natural resources," Finance Minister Chatib Basri said during the State Property Awards event in Jakarta yesterday.
With the ledger, said Chatib, the government will benefit from having additional data on state assets and collateral for the issuance of certain bonds.
Chatib said that the management of state property in ministries and other state agencies is improving each year in terms of physical or legal administration after the State Directorate General of Wealth was established in 2005. Prior to that, he said, the process of identifying state properties did not go smoothly because many government assets were not recorded properly.
