TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Singaporean house furniture retailer, Courts Asia Ltd, will open its first outlet in Indonesia on October 9, 2014. The company, owning 79 outlets in Singapore and Malaysia, chose Bekasi, West Java, as its first location in Indonesia.
Courts Retail Indonesia CEO Roy Santoso said the company’s first megastore will be built on a 1.3-hectare land.
“It’s hard to find a location with that size in Jakarta,” Roy told journalists on Wednesday, September 24, 2014.
According to Roy, Bekasi is the perfect place to open the first store since the location is relatively near the transportation network connecting the city and Jakarta. In addition, as a satellite city of Jakarta, Bekasi is populated by 2.5 million with a growing number of middle class people.
“The minimum salary in Bekasi is even higher than in Jakarta,” Roy said.
Courts Indonesia is planning to open 10 stores within the next five years. After Bekasi, the company will open its second outlet at Bumi Serpong Damai, South Tangerang, in six months.
“There will be 3 or 4 megastores. After that we will open 6 or 7 other stores at shopping malls,” Roy said.
