TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director Mineral and Coal of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Sukhyar said the ministry has recommended the export approval letter (SPE) to PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara, a subsidiary of US-based Newmont Mining Corp, to export copper.
"The SPE is finished and we've sent it to the Trade Ministry (on Friday morning)," said Sukhyar on Friday, September 19, 2014.
According Sukhyar, with the export approval letter, Newmont is now able to export 304,515 tons of copper for six months and this amount is actually rations for three years.
"But we give the rations for six months," he said.
PT Newmont produces 600 thousand tons of copper per year.
"Hence, Newmont could export as much as it is," he said.
PT Newmont main export countries are Japan, Germany, South Korea, China, India, the Philippines, Finland, Bulgaria and Sweden. In the meantime, PT. Newmont has expressed its readiness to cooperate with other companies.
"Next week we will call PT Newmont to facilitate business with many companies," Sukhyar added.
