TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia AirAsia's President Director Sunu Widyatmoko has said that AirAsia is set to add two domestic routes this October, which are Medan-Palembang and Medan-Yogyakarta.

"Medan is one of our major hubs in Indonesia," said Sunu at a launch event for a CIMB-AirAsia BIG co-branded credit card at the Intercontinental Hotel in Jakarta on Monday, September 15, 2014.

According to Sunu, AirAsia has five hubs in Indonesia - namely Medan, Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Denpasar. In the near future, AirAsia is planning to increase the number of destinations and flight frequencies from the aforementioned hubs.

"We are also planning to increase the amount of flights from Bandung this year. We plan to increase more destinations from each of those hubs," said Sunu.

The route additions, said Sunu, is done in accordance to Indonesia AirAsia's business plan, which is aimed to strengthen Indonesia AirAsia's position in Indonesia's domestic travel sector.

Sunu mentioned that Indonesia AirAsia is planning to open more international routes in the future. "Starting from next year, we plan to open more international routes into Indonesia," he said.

However, the opening of the routes is not only contingent on Indonesia AirAsia's fleet capabilities. According to Sunu, the new routes could only be inaugurated if the government agrees to grant AirAsia additional slots.
