TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The cause of the death of former Aru Regent Teddy Tengko, remains unknown. The graft convict died five minutes after playing tennis.

He fell down and lost consciousness. On the way to the hospital, Teddy was declared dead.

"The cause of his death is still unknown,” said Head of Security Unit of Sukamiskin penitentiary to Tempo on the phone yesterday.

Teddy Tengko had been an inmate at Sukamiskin penitentiary, Bandung, after he was sentenced to four years in prison in the corruption case of Aru Island regional budget in 2006-2007 worth Rp42.5 billion.

During his term in prison, Teddy never complained about his health although he reportedly had hypertension.

"So far, he had routinely had his blood tension checked," Heru said.

Teddy died at the age of 59 and his body was expected to be buried in Surabaya, East Java.

Teddy still had the remaining three years in prison. "His family, who live in Bandung, has taken the body," Heru added.
