TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Effendi Simbolon, the House of Representatives' (DPR) energy commission member, said the saving from subsidized fuel would be used to develop the energy sector. As a result, the issue of increasing burdens on the national budget due to subsidized fuel would not happen again.
“If it was transferred to a productive sector but did not directly improve the energy sector, everything will happen again,” he said on Saturday.
According to Effendi, the improvement could be conducted by developing infrastructure in the gas field, including attempts to increase gas usage for transportation. “Subsidized (fuel) certainly has to be economized. But, on one hand, the energy sector still has to be a priority in utilizing the budget,” he uttered.
Prior to the end of his office, the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono government has decided to control the consumption of subsidized fuel. His reason was because the volume of subsidized fuel has been cut from 48 million kiloliters to 46 million kiloliters.
