TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The two Indonesian policemen of West Kalimantan Police arrested in Malaysia last week, Adj. Sr. Comr. Idha Endi Prasetyono and Brigadier Harahap, are allegedly involved in an international narcotics syndicate.
"West Kalimantan Police and the National Police’s Narcotics Directorate are coordinating with the Malaysian Police to unravel the syndicate,” National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Ronny Franky Sompie said.
Idha—the chief of Directorate III on Narcotics of West Kalimantan Police—and Harahap were arrested on August 30, 2014 at Kuching Airport. Ronny said both were apprehended based on the lead from a prior investigation into a Philippine woman who was nabbed several hours earlier.
Harmono, the Indonesian Deputy Ambassador to Malaysia, said the National Police had appointed lawyers for the suspects. He added, however, the police must abide by the law in Malaysia that barred any kind of contact with the suspects during the investigations.
Idha and Harahap are charged with the Malaysian law on narcotics carrying a maximum penalty of death.
