TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for the Economy Chairul Tanjung, ensured that the government will not raise fuel price until 20 October or until the end of President Yudhoyono’s term.
“There will be no fuel price increase,” he said on Friday, August 29, 2014.
According to Chairul Tanjung, the urge to increase fuel price has burdened the government.
He added that the 33 percent increase in fuel price last year and the increase in basic electricity rate gradually this year have also given a burden to the people.
In addition, state-owned oil and gad firm also plans to increase the price of 12 kilogram of LPG canister.
“All these have given a burden to the people,” he said.
Chairul added that the government’s unwillingness to increase fuel price at the moment will not give a fiscal burden for the next government because all possibilities that might arise have been carefully calculated.
“It won’t give a burden to the next government. Every government has its own burdens,” he said.
Furthermore, Chairul said that problems face by every government is not the same so the next government is expected to prepare everything to face anything that might happen.
Chairul also hoped that that at the end of President Yudhoyono’s government, everyone can help to make the transition a success; thus he said, urge to increase fuel price will not become a reason to corner the current government.
