TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - People of Sekala Beghak, sometimes called Skala Brak, in West Lampung, Lampung Province, have a tradition to express their happiness together in a mass mask dance. The dance called ‘Sekura' is held annually for a week starting from Eid el Fitr day to provide entertainment to the people and to interact with one another.
Various activities are included in the festivities such as traditional dance performance, silat (traditional martial art), and many others that build togetherness.
There are two types of participants in the party : the sekura betik (wearing clean clothes) and sekura kamak (wearing dirty attributes). The sekura betik usually appear in long clothes and go around the village to meet their loved ones. They also act as the guard for families when watching the mask dance performed by sekura kamak.
The sekura kamak participants are dancing wearing attractive masks that made of wood or other material.
