TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Rida Mulyana, director general for renewable energy and energy conservation at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, said the government targets the use bioavtur (bio jet fuel) will start in 2016. The government also targets two percent of avtur consumption total can be filled with bioavtur.
“There are already raw materials for bio-energy. One of them is oil palm,” said Rida on Tuesday.
PT Pertamina corporate planning Heru Setiawan said Pertamina is currently assessing sources of vegetable oil that will be used for bioavtur mix while oil palm is being examined as a source for bioenergy due to its massive production. “We are already able to produce bioavtur in Pertamina laboratory in Pulogadung, Jakarta. We’re now testing in refinery in Dumai, Riau,” he said.
Heru said the consumption of avtur (jet fuel) this year is five miliion kiloliters which are obtained from imports. With the use of biofuel in avtur, there can be saving of two percent from avtur imports.
PT Garuda Indonesia operation director Novianto Herupratomo said Garuda’s avtur consumption per year is 1.8 million kiloliters. In 2016, Novianto predicted that avtur consumption can reach two million kiloliters.
Garuda will consider using bioavtur as long as it is economical. “The price of bioavtur? We don’t know yet,” he said.
