TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics, has started searching for a location for their new investment. Muljadi Suganda, Corporate Secretary for PT Kawasan Industri Jababeka (Kija), said that Samsung has spoken about this issue with PT Kija last week.
"It was only an initial talk. Just like a house buyer. No deals have been made yet," he said yesterday.
Muljadi said that the brief discussion did not mention any specific plans by Samsung to develop their new plant in Jababeka.
Currently, Samsung already has built a fully operational electronics factory in Cikarang through their subsidiary company Samsung Electronics Indonesia. However, Muljadi cannot confirm whether the company will build a new plant close to the already operating factory.
Minister of Industry M.S Hidayat, previously said that Samsung plans to build their new factory in an area around Jakarta. "I have offered them an area outside of Java, but still they prefer Java," the Minister said.
