BPH Migas: Disrupted Stock Causes Fuel Scarcity

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Committee of the  Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) Ibrahim Hasyim considered that the fuel scarcity which happened in several regions is because the fuel stock in those regions are not normal yet.

"We have not decided new quotas for every region after Ied Day last month. Once we have decided the quota, the supply will go back to normal,” Ibrahim said on Sunday, August 24, 2014.

Ibrahim also said that fuel scarcity in several regions may also be caused by the delay in the distribution.

"We only take care of the quota issues, as for the distribution, it’s not our responsibility,” Ibrahim said.

The quota that has been set by BPH Migas is expected to be maximal in every region.

"If it is premium that is scarce, that’s unusual because it is not affected by rising fuel price,” Ibrahim said.

Previously, it was reported that long queues of vehicles that were going to refill solar and Premium were seen in a number of gas filling stations in the northern parts of Java island, such as in Kuningan, Cirebon, Subang, and Tegal.

"Last night, we were running out of solar and Premium. We only sold Pertamax," kata Suyatno, an officer at a gas filling station in Cirebon, Friday, August 22, 2014.

According to Suyatno, after fuel supply came, queues of vehicles happened again to refuel both Solar and premium.

The supply was immediately running out as State-owned gas and oil producer PT Pertamina has reduced the supply.

"Usually, once a tank comes, it can carry 16 kiloliter, but now it only carries 8 kiloliter," he said.
